What drives a man to kill his (ex)girlfriend/ wife?

There seems to be this interesting trend of men killing or attempting to kill their girlfriends/ wives. Recently in South African, a prominent athlete was accused of murdering his girlfriend on Valentine's day and he is due to reappear in court for the hearing.
Within the same country, a man was released from prison after he was arrested for brutally murdering his girlfriend.

These incidents might seem like they are springing out of nowhere, yet there are decades of evidence which shows an alarming trend. in South Africa, a woman is killed every 6 hours by an intimate partner. This is according to Say No, an organisation aimed at tackling violence against women. 





The question that needs to be addressed with urgency is 'What drives a man to kill the person HE claims to love'? Let alone inflict any form of harm on them whether it be physical or emotional? Many can claim that they loved their partner or ex-partner so much that they couldn't stand to let them go. Some simply claim a moment of insanity.

The honest truth is many of us can never know what drives people to behave the way that they do and most men would never admit to abusing their partners, but IF you truly love someone then their happiness ought to be your priority. If your girlfriend or wife left you it is because they left for a reason and the primary factor in that decision is you, the 'man'. A person's decision to leave doesn't warrant their death or any form of harm to be brought against them. Yes you might have a great history together or you might feel that you invested a lot in the relationship, but it is never too late to start over again.


Very few women live to tell their story and those who do unfortunately bare the scars of their ordeal. Some scars might easy to identify as they run across the face and some are buried deep inside across her heart. Therefore I reiterate my question; What drives a man to kill the person HE claims to love?

If you love her as much as you claim, then the best thing is to just let her go; let her be happy.
